How Can I Increase My Faith?
GWEA Monthly Message, August 2018
REVEREND GORDON WILLIAMS

Jesus’ disciples, like many people today were having a “crisis of faith.” “The apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith!' And He then said, 'If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamine tree, Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you.’ (Lk. 17:5-6). Then Jesus shares a story (parable) about a man who has a servant working in the field and who prepares supper and afterwards, “Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? So, you also, when you have done all that is commanded you say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty’ (Lk. 17:7-10).

What this means is what Mary told the servants at the marriage reception at Cana of Galilee when they ran out of wine, “Do whatever he tells you” (Jn. 2:5). Jesus turned about 180 gallons of water into wine (Jn: 2:2–11).

When we learn to do what Jesus commands us to do, we will increase our faith. Faith is doing what Jesus commands us to do! Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (Jn. 3:5). Everybody must have their own Day of Pentecost (Baptism of the Holy Spirit) with the proof of speaking in other national languages (tongues) as in Acts 2:4, 41; 4:4; 8; 17; 9:17; 10:46; 19:6).

Whenever somebody does not want to receive the authentic Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the proof of the “signs following” (Mk. 16:17), that person is in rebellion with Jesus. The first sign of receiving Salvation is called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, who gives us the power to “do whatever he tells you.” The Holy Spirit is given to us as our heavenly appointed Counsellor (Jn. 16: 7–5). It is the Holy Spirit’s responsibility to equip us with the 15 Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12:6–8; 1 Cor. 12:8–10).

The worst rebellion in the Churches today is the rejection and refusal to receive and use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. That is called rebellion against Jesus, the Holy Spirit. That is the reason why most people do not get answers to their prayer. That is the reason that most churches have lost their “first love” (Rev. 2:5) and are having their “lamp stand” (church) closed down like the church in Ephesus.

Whenever any church or person does not receive the authentic born-again experience, they are in rebellion against Jesus, our heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit. For example, when I had my first heart attack in 1973 and my doctor explained that there was nothing wrong (medically speaking).

He told me that I might only have 2 years left to live! However, the Apostle Paul advises us, “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself” (1 Cor. 14: 4). The Greek word for edification means “to build or renovate a building, and to bring healing to your sickness.” So I began praying with my heavenly appointed language (tongues) every time I felt any pain. The results were astounding! I was given a new heart three years later!

Whenever we refuse to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, we rarely, if ever, see our prayers answered. To deny the necessity of using the Gifts of the Holy Spirit daily, means a person is in rebellion against Jesus. “God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will” (Heb. 2:4).

One of my professors at Princeton Theological Seminary was also the Senior Pastor at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. He shared with me how he got many complaints about the gift of speaking in tongues (Mk. 16:17; Acts 2:4; 1 Cor. 12:10). During that Sunday worship service he explained, “The Gift of speaking in tongues is a good Gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit only gives good gifts. So get over it! And they did! And so must we all!

Do you have questions about the Holy Spirit and need answers? Do you need prayer for Salvation and/or for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit? I invite you come to one of our house meetings or contact me for prayer and guidance.

Dear Gordon:
I was pleased to find out that you're still ministering these days. A very long time ago you did a Huntley Street service at Central Collegiate in Barrie and I sheepishly attended. It was through your ministry that I received the fullness of the Holy Spirit at that meeting. What a blessing. I'm now 67 years young and still following Jesus. I trust you're in good health and I pray the Lord will continue to bless your endeavours.

Dear Gordon:
“Thank you for recommending that our friends come to your meeting in Welland. It is always exciting to see the wonderful work that the Holy Spirit does in their lives.” They both received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. “I have no words to express my joy so I’ll just continue in tongues!

Dear Gordon:
"In 1980 you came and spoke at my church in Oakville, Ontario (St Hilda's Anglican Church) ... I remember that evening because it was a turning point in many people's lives, the church, and in my own life. You spoke about the healing ministry, and by the end of the evening people were receiving much healing, as well as, people were touched by the Holy Spirit in such a way as many, if not most, were laid out on the ground. It was such an incredibly powerful evening, one that I will never forget.
